HURREVAC Training

The Hurrevac2000 Manual

Upon installation of the program, a file called MANUAL.PDF is located in your Hurrevac2000 installation directory. This is the program manual in Acrobat PDF format, an internet standard format for viewing published reports and manuals. Using the Help | Hurrevac Manual... option will allow you to read and print out the manual with Acrobat Reader (which you may already have on an office machine, if not it is available free on the web). In order for the program to find your Acrobat Reader program (.exe file) you must specify its location under File |Program Setup | General Setup | Misc panel. If you have Adobe Acrobat software installed on your machine, the manual will be displayed. You can browse through the manual (and print it to hard copy if need be).

HURREVAC Training

The HURREVAC program covers about 1600 at-risk counties in the Mainland US, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It is impossible for the HURREVAC programmer to do on-site training for all these areas...while programming new items during the off-season ... and maintaining the internet site / seeing that the data feeds are updated on time during the hurricane season.

  1. Hurrevac 2005 Essentials Only Training -This is a Basics Only training module we put together for the 2005 season. It concentrates only on what you need to know to do your job as an emergency management decision maker....the essentials of running the program and the basics of deciding on an evacuation decision and the timing of that decision. The file Hurrevac2005_Essentials.pdf (an Adobe Acrobat format file) can be downloaded here.
  2. Hurrevac2000 and SLOSH Training Tools - FEMA and the Corps of Engineers has provided a New Hurrevac Training package consisting of 3 files. The training package consists of an Instructor's Guide in .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) format, a Hurrevac Training module in .pdf format, and a Hurrevac Training PowerPoint presentation (.ppt format). These are large files, which can be downloaded for your use.
  3. In the same location as the above, the FEMA/Corps SLOSH Training module is located, consisting of an Instructor's Guide in .pdf (Adobe Acrobat), a SLOSH Training module in .pdf format, and a SLOSH PowerPoint presentation (.ppt format). HURREVAC Help System

Hurrevac2000 are designed with a context sensitive Help system. This is accessed either through the Help menu or by using the F1 key on your keypad. When using the F1 key, the Help screen that appears will in most cases apply to the last button you pressed or the last menu item you selected. Also a good way to start would be to select Help | Using Hurrevac option and navigate through a 'tour' of the program using hyperlinks.
